DAD CHURCH
"What is SIMILAR between the two birthday scenes?"
Look at the people, the smiles, and the milestone.
β’ Both boys are surrounded by family and friends who love them.
β’ Both have food set in front of them.
β’ Crucial insight: Both boys are capable of being 100% joyful OR 0% gloomy!
"What is DIFFERENT between the two birthday scenes?"
Look at the physical room, the objects, and the clothing.
β’ The second boy has torn, ragged clothes, an earthen floor, a humble bowl of rice with one candle, and a single tiny gift tied with string.
β’ Notice: One has immense material abundance, the other has almost nothing.
"Why could GriffinWill be completely miserable (0% Gloom), even with a mountain of presents and a big party?"
He has everything a kid could ask for. How could he still feel gloomy?
β’ Was he comparing his gifts to something else?
β’ Did he take the family, friends, and celebration for granted?
β’ Key principle: Physical abundance cannot force a heart to be happy.
"Why could the second boy be filled with 100% radiant joy, with only a small bowl of rice and one tiny gift?"
He has almost nothing. How could he possibly be that happy?
β’ He knew the tiny gift was given with deep sacrifice and love.
β’ He cherished having his parents and friends close to him.
β’ Key principle: When we cherish small things, everything feels like a miracle.
"If our surroundings DO NOT determine our joy or gloom... what does?"
Does joy come from what is outside of us, or what is inside of us?
β’ What lens or sunglasses are we wearing when we look at our life?
β’ Lead-in to reveal: Joy is never an accident of our circumstances. It is a posture of our heart.
"Joy is never determined by what is on our table.
It is always determined by the posture of our heart."
The world tells us that happiness comes from having more things, more comfort, and bigger piles.
But our perspective proves the opposite:
Gratitude doesn't change what is on the table β it changes the eyes through which we see it.
"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning."
"I say unto you, my brethren, that if you should render all the thanks and praise which your whole soul has power to possess, to that God who has created you... yet I say unto you that if ye should serve him who has created you from the beginning... ye would yet be unprofitable servants."
"That ye contend no more against the Holy Ghost, but that ye receive it, and take upon you the name of Christ; that ye humble yourselves even to the dust, and worship God, in whatever place ye may be in, in spirit and in truth; and that ye live in thanksgiving daily, for the many mercies and blessings which he doth bestow upon you."
"And he who receiveth all things with thankfulness shall be made glorious; and the things of this earth shall be added unto him, even an hundred fold, yea, more."

The "Thanks First" Prayer
Before asking for anything in your morning or bedtime prayer, spend the first half only thanking Heavenly Father by name for 3 specific blessings from today.
The "I Get To" Shift
Whenever you catch yourself complaining, flip the script:
β’ "I have to do chores" β "I get to have a home & clothes."
β’ "I have to do schoolwork" β "I get to learn & have a brain."
Three Good Things
Right before bed or upon waking up, notice 3 tiny blessings. Not big eventsβnotice small miracles: a cold drink, warm blankets, a good laugh.
